HOW DOES CBD HELP PROMOTE ATHLETIC RECOVERY?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is celebrated by many for its myriad effects, with CBD athletic recovery leading the way. This phytocannabinoid from hemp is being explored for its effect on the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which keeps your body in balance from head to toe. CBD and muscle recovery

Among its many properties, CBD is celebrated for its calming properties. After an intense match, a high-intensity workout, or even just a good long walk, your muscles are definitely feeling the burn. CBD and sleep

Any athlete knows that sleep is vital to recovery. According to the Sleep Foundation, REM sleep is key to your body’s recovery, both physically and mentally. The less quality sleep you get, the fewer REM cycles your body and brain undergo — and your athletic performance can suffer as a result.

CBD impacts sleep in a number of ways, including:

While the research into CBD and sleep is still ongoing, what we know is promising. In one 2019 study, two out of three adults reported improved sleep after taking CBD for one month, and a bit more than half reported improved sleep for two months.

Are athletes allowed to use CBD in 2020?

For decades, many professional leagues across all sports did not allow the use of CBD. In 2018, the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) removed CBD from its list of prohibited substances. (It’s important to note that only CBD was removed from WADA’s list – no other natural or synthetic phytocannabinoid is OK.)

As of 2020, the following leagues allow for use of CBD:

  • Major League Baseball (MLB)
  • Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)
  • National Hockey League (NHL)

As of 2020, the following leagues do not allow use of CBD:

  • National Football League (NFL)
  • National Basketball Association (NBA)
  • National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)

There’s a significant and growing movement of retired and current pro athletes calling for leagues to allow the use of CBD and other phytocannabinoids in their leagues. Should I take CBD oil before or after a workout?

Like we mentioned earlier, if you want to try to nip post-workout recovery in the bud before you even hit the gym, taking CBD before a workout may be a good idea.

How much CBD should I take before or after a workout?

The amount of CBD you should take changes from person to person. Everyone has their own tolerance and individual experience with CBD, and it may affect everyone differently. That’s the long way of saying that there’s no single tried-and-true amount for every person out there.

Start with a small amount of CBD product and work your way up. Try around 5mg. Wait around 1 hour and then evaluate how you feel. If you think you need more, take another 5mg. Eventually, you’ll build up a tolerance and may need to take more to experience CBD’s effects.

How long does CBD take to work?
